I went to India for the first time when I was 18.
I was there to climb big mountains — but what stuck with me just as much was the chai.
It wasn’t the kind you find in coffee shops back home. It was real — strong, spicy, made by hand, shared over dusty roads and long bus rides.
I didn’t think much of it back then. I was too busy climbing.
But years later, after a decade of guiding, living out of my truck, and drinking bad gas station coffee, I realized how difficult it is to find quality chai.
The real stuff. The kind you can’t fake.
So I went back to India.
This time not for climbing — but to find the source.
I spent time with farmers, tasted fresh-cut tea leaves, got lost in the smell of cardamom and ginger.
That’s how Heavy Tea started.
Not a brand idea — but as a way to bring that feeling back.
